He went on to write the influential Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation, which Ms Horrocks described as a worldwide phenomenon. The activist and writer was in America in the late 1960s observing the flowering of the gay liberation movement. The film is told through recollections of some of the key participants of the time, many of whom were Melbourne University students, including the 'father' of gay liberation in Australia, professorial fellow Dennis Altman. Dennis Altman wrote the influential book Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation, published in 1971.
